Five O-rings are strategically placed along the length of this leash to offer the most configurations possible. This means that you can take the snap at either end of the leash and clip it to any of the O-rings to make your leash nearly any length you need! “Double Up” the leash by clipping TWO rings at once for even more variations. The adjustable-ring-fob allows the leash to be worn as a belt and it can be adjusted to fit any size person or dog! Try it. We think you’ll love it.

About the Atlas Leash Design:
Jennifer Kolar, founding board member of Atlas, approached Katrina with ideas to make a better leash. Jennifer asked if the BLD’s famous 8-Way Lead could have a few more options, including over-the-shoulder and around-the-waist options AND have both a longer and shorter leash for different activities. The goal was simple: one leash that could be used for training, working, playing, and relieving that could fit almost any size dog or person. The resulting leash was so amazing that we at BLD knew it would quickly become a customer favorite. We’ve partnered up to offer this special edition leash design to the world.
About Atlas Assistance Dogs®
Atlas Assistance Dogs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit disability rights organization that helps people who would benefit from a service dog take control of their own solution to live more independently. This ambitious organization is expanding the possibilities for assistance dog training by offering a comprehensive online training program for professional dog trainers and by supporting dog/handler teams with skilled Team Facilitators in as many locations as possible across the US.
Atlas Assistance Dogs is different:
“We focus on the needs not presently served by traditional service dog organizations. We respect that disabilities are part of someone–they are not something to fight or something to hide from–they are something to claim and thrive with. Our clients work with their own dogs and are an active part of their training with hands-on support from our skilled Atlas Team Facilitators. We believe our clients and their dogs should both be treated ethically. We strongly advocate the use of only positive training methods.”

BLD’s founder, owner, and designer Katrina Boldry has served on Atlas Assistance Dogs’ board of directors. Additionally, Katrina volunteers on several committees working on Atlas’ curriculum development. She is sharing content related to best practices for health and fitness of service dogs, as well as her knowledge and experience with specialized equipment including leashes for people in wheelchairs and mobility/balance dogs. Katrina is on a personal mission to share her unique knowledge regarding specialized canine equipment and believes this is just one way to attain that goal.
Hardware:
Hardware modifications are possible! If you would like to put a different type of hardware on the leash, in the box that says “Another leather width or hardware (specify)”, type the desired hardware/leash snap. A list of hardware/leash snaps can be found here.
Brahma:
The Atlas leash can be made from Brahma, which is a leather alternative material. The Brahma material is available in two widths:
- Medium ½” wide (12.7 mm): Most popular size, great for all size dogs!
- XL ¾” wide (19 mm): Best for large breeds, this is a heavy-duty leash!
Brahma Atlas Leashes come standard in black, cobalt blue, teal, or purple.
**The other Brahma color options are Hunter Orange, Bright Red, and Bright Green, which can be made to order upon special request (custom charge applies). Other alterations are not recommended for this design.
Leather:
The Atlas leash can be made from either black or tan leather, which are both available in the following widths:

Read more about our leather color options below:
Our Golden TAN BRIDLE leather is 100% American vegetable-tanned leather, made with NO dyes or toxic metallic chemicals. Every item crafted from this high quality leather is HAND-OILED to bring out the softness, so your new gear arrives supple and only improves with age. The color will darken over time and with use.
Our lovely BLACK LATIGO leather is solid black and cut from select USA hides. Superior in quality and texture, it is incredibly durable yet very flexible. This leather feels great from the start and will simply get better with age.
Premium Leather:
Leather care is easy! Don’t worry too much, and don’t be afraid to use your items — we promise leather is incredibly resilient, and regular weather won’t hurt it. If you think your item looks dirty, dry, or just need a little extra love, pouring a little leather conditioner on a cloth, and rubbing it in like lotion will usually do the trick. Baths and a jaunt in the river are just fine, but you might want to offer a little conditioner to your products afterwards. Saltwater can be harsh, so after a visit to the ocean, a good rinse in fresh water and proper conditioning will help preserve and protect your treasured leash or collar. See our Leather Care page for more specific information.
Brahma Soft-Grip—a vegan leather alternative:
Brahma Soft-Grip is constructed with webbing on the inside and a durable, non-tacky PVC coating on the outside. Easy to care for: just wipe clean with soap and water. Brahma is always assembled with screw posts for durability. This material is heavier than leather (in a comparable width), and does not soften over time the way leather does. Black is the most popular color for wheelchair leashes, but assorted bright and classic colors are also available. Just ask for available color choices!

This is probably the best lead we’ve owned yet. My husband’s Golden Retriever service dog is 80lbs, and the lead is such good quality, and comfortable to use for both dog and handler!

I purchased the Brahma Atlas in pink last year for Breast Cancer Awareness. I have other Brahma leashes, products and also Brahma long lines. I also have BLD leather leashes and many other products from past purchases. I like the versatile configurations.
I walk my dogs in the local park early in the morning daily, when the grass/fields is/are wet and sometimes muddy. When it rains in the SF Bay area, there’s no problem of a wet leash with cleaning, smell, etc. Using the long line at the community garden, I know my dog won’t be too far away!
The Brahma product are great because they can get wet/dirty and be easily washed off with simple soap and water, left to dry quickly, and there is absolutely no smell.

This leash is really fantastic! It’s only four stars in comparison to the 8-way. I really like having the slip lead option for either an impromptu figure-8 headcollar or to have something secure when grabbing a loose dog from the side of the road. The adjustable ring on this leash can’t be used as a slip lead for either of these options, so it’s a little more limited in use.
That said, I mostly choose between my 8-way and this leash based on the hardware color, to match to my dog’s collar. It’s great quality leather and construction. The multiple clip options are very helpful. The large ring in the center is great and really easy to find without having to look at the leash. It’s also large enough that I feel I can hold onto it itself.
I’ve used this on strong, insufficiently trained 100lb dogs and never had a worry about it failing. Great leash overall!

I originally ordered this in the medium size (1/2″) and realized I should have gone with a large (5/8″) to help ease my anxiety over my dog being a bit crazy on leash sometimes. I had zero problems sending it back and exchanging for the next size up. This leash is so great. It feels super strong and is very well made. There are so many ways to configure it and I’m never worried about where I’m going to clip some poop bags or even a small treat pouch while on the go. I think my only regret is not going with brass hardware to match some of my other gear. Guess that means I need a second one in the future lol.

As a wheelchair user, I wanted to highlight a feature of the atlas leash that you might not get from just reading the description. Because you make the adjustments at the center ring, if you are wearing it as either a Crossbody leash or a waist belt, you can adjust the length from the short “walk right next to the wheelchair“ length to the next longer length just by changing where the hook attaches right at your waist, which is really easy to do when you are sitting in a wheelchair. You don’t have to take it off and you don’t have to unhook it from the dog in order to change between these two lengths. You’re just changing what you do with the adjustment ring, either hook it to the top hook or let it hang down. You can see the extra loop at the waist in both of the videos, but I’m not sure it was really clear how great this works when you are seated in a wheelchair.
This is the most expensive leash we’ve ever had, but I’m really happy with the purchase. It just makes every day life much easier than dealing with way too much leash or a leash that requires finding an extra way to tether the dog while I make a length adjustment.

I have to say that this is the best purchase I’ve made on dog-equipment. I’ve been a professional dog walker and trainer for two and a half years now. After purchasing my Atlas leash (in beautiful blue Brahma) I’ve used it with my clients’ dogs in many different configurations. My favorite way is the hands-free waist option! I have the largest width and am a huge fan of the design. It’s far better than a retractable leash…I can give my dogs a 6-foot lead our reign them in to the closest notch to heel by my side…I’ve passed the information about BLD in to my clients and they are happy with the products as well.
As a vegetarian, I love the Brahma vegan leather! It is weather-proof and works well in snow or a downpour, here in the Chicago suburbs.
Lastly, but most important…The customer service is outstanding! If you want to buy a top-notch product from a company that cares about your needs, go no further.
Thanks a million, Bold Lead Designs!

I own five BLD leads and counting while I absolutely love them all–especially the multifunction ones–this is my favorite leash on the planet. The length is perfect especially as a tall woman, and the versatile configuration options make it so practical to switch on the fly. I tend to wear it crossbody or on my waist, and clip up an extra loop of length when I want to keep my dog closer. I LOVE being able to release that loop and give my dog extra room. It’s a total workhorse and it’s one of my favorite dog items that makes a major difference in my day-to-day. I also use it hiking, and wear it on my waist and clip up the extra length depending on the situation and where I want my dog to be. When I release the extra length while in the waist worn position, she has a good bit of room to explore while staying close. I got the brahma option because I wanted to be able to just wash it off if it got filthy on a hike, and I’m tempted to get the leather version too just because it’s that good.
