Product Description

Introducing the new and improved BLD Martingale Collar!

Martingales are among the safest collars to use with a leash because there is no choking and dog's can't slip the collar.

These beautiful leather collars are made from the finest leather and highest quality stainless steel chain. Edges of the leather are beveled for a smooth edge for comfort and to protect your dog’s coat.

  • Adjustable leather collar for walks and training
  • Prevents dogs from slipping out of the collar
  • Rust-free solid stainless steel chain
  • Many sizes and widths to fit nearly any dog
  • Lifetime Warranty on materials and workmanship
  • Artisan handcrafted in Colorado, USA!

Sometimes called a half-check or limited-slip collar, it's designed to fit loosely, then partially tighten enough with leash pressure so the dog cannot back out of the collar. It's a great choice for small nervous dogs as well as large powerful dogs.

We've re-designed our popular Martingale Collar with a wider selection of neck sizes and widths from 5/8 inch wide for small dogs, and up to 1 1/2 inch wide for large breeds.

Warranty and info about our leather can be found below.

NOTE: Martingales are intended to be used with a leash; not recommended for full-time wear or when the dog is unsupervised for concern the chain could get caught on an object and trap the dog.

Styles

Select from two styles:

  • Plain - sleek design has minimal hardware and slips over the dog's head; Conway adjustment buckle is smooth on the inside and won’t irritate your dog. The collar stays adjusted to the dog's neck size, plus, there's no excess "tail" to flap about.
  • Buckle-style - has a regular buckle for adjustment; it can be buckled around the neck, or slipped over the dog's head.

    FAQS

Frequently asked questions about BLD Martingale Collars:

Do you offer a clip-on style? For safety concerns, we no longer offer the clip-on style.

Can you add a quick release type buckle? No, sorry. Quick release type buckles are not available because the hardware required to make them takes up more than half of the dog's neck size.

Can I change the hardware to brass or gold color? No, sorry. We've discontinued the brass chains because the oxidation can stain dog's fur.

I'm not sure what width is best for my dog. What do you recommend? If your dog has a lighter frame, or is sensitive to gear, choose the narrower option. If your dog is burley and thick, like bull dogs and bully breeds, the wider option would be great.

My dog's neck is in between sizes. What size should I order? Our collars are designed with a little extra room than the stated size range. If your dog is young and in-between sizes, size up to allow a little room should your dog fill out or gain weight. A larger collar can always be adjusted smaller.

As always, we stand behind the quality of our in-house handmade products with a Lifetime Warranty on materials and workmanship.

Did you know BLD products are designed to be repaired instead of replaced? Even if the item is not covered by our warranty (like for chewing), most damaged leashes can be repaired and made functional for a nominal fee.

    BLACK LATIGO leather

Latigo tanned specifically for quality horse tack and premium pet products and has a high tensile strength. Your leash will start out a bit firm yet flexible and will very quickly soften and will continue to get better with age. The rich black color is drum dyed during tanning (rather than just dyed on the surface). Made in North America from select US steer hides. Stainless steel (silver color) hardware is standard.

English Bridle Leather in LONDON TAN

English bridle has a supple, satin-smooth finish and satisfying hand feel that is simply unmatched. London Tan, cherished in the 19th century for the finest horse tack, ages to a warm patina while keeping its lighter brown and orange tones. This full grain leather is 100% veg tanned with no metals or harsh chemicals. Made in North America from select US steer hides. ("English" refers to the style of tanning rather than a location.)
Solid brass (gold colored) hardware is standard.

Caring for leather: Your BLD leather gear will last for many years and only get better with age. Leather is resilient, don’t be afraid to use it in daily life. A light coat of conditioner rubbed in like lotion keeps it healthy.
