Product Description

Welcome to the first and only custom-made dog leashes specifically designed for wheelchair users!

These accessible wheelchair-friendly leashes are designed to prevent the leash from getting caught in the wheels, and to allow people with limited dexterity and strength to manage their own dog's leash.

Wheelchair leashes are a BLD specialty. We understand the unique needs of people who use wheelchairs and specialize in finding accessible solutions for your dog leash requirements. Because each person, wheelchair, and dog are different, custom wheelchair leashes ensure you get the right equipment to make life with dogs more convenient and safe!

This leash design is created especially for people with low dexterity and strength, including for people with quadriplegia. Nicknamed "the quad lead," this style of leash attaches to the wheelchair via our Wheelchair Hook Attachment.

Quad leads can be a single length, or multiple lengths for various tasks and activities. Every wheelchair leash we made has a an adjustable length at the dog-end of the leash because an inch or two can make the difference for whether the leash get's caught up in the wheels.

Safety Notes

These products are intended for use with fully trained service dogs/assistance dogs/pet dogs that have excellent leash manners. We’ve designed all of our Wheelchair Leash options to manually detach from the wheelchair in the event of an emergency situation. Why? Because it’s simply a smart idea!

Only you can determine if letting go of the leash and attaching it to your wheelchair is the right choice for you and your dog.

Attached leashes (fastened to a person, wheelchair, or another mobility device) are not safe for all dogs and/or users of wheelchair/mobility devices. Please choose your equipment wisely and use it responsibly.

Do not use wheelchair leashes with an untrained dog. Not for dogs that pull on the leash. Wheelchair leashes must NOT be used with dogs that lunge or are difficult to control, as this could be very dangerous. Additionally, DO NOT USE FOR PULLING A WHEELCHAIR.

Please note: If your strength or dexterity is limited, you may need assistance from a friend to install the wheelchair attachment and make the initial adjustment to the leash. Once attached and adjusted, the leash will remain at the desired length and is easy to connect to and remove from the wheelchair.

Materials & Guarantees

As always, we stand behind the quality of our in-house handmade products with a Lifetime Warranty on materials and workmanship.

Did you know BLD products are designed to be repaired instead of replaced? Even if the item is not covered by our warranty (like for chewing), most damaged leashes can be repaired and made functional for a nominal fee.

The only vegan material that performs like leather.

Brahma is a coated webbing material constructed with poly webbing on the inside and a durable PVC coating on the outside. This material can take a beating through brush, muck, and saltwater.

Key Benefits:

  • Ideal for any climate, weather condition, or activity
  • Stays soft, never gets sticky or tacky
  • Feels similar to leather with a nice grip and suburb durability
  • Snag-free, knot-free, and won’t pick up dirt or brush
  • Doesn’t stink, absorb odors, or get slimy
  • Maintenance free and easy to clean

Originally developed for the horse and ranch industry, it's incredibly strong and will last a lifetime.

Caring for Brahma: Requires nothing special. Feel free to store it in your vehicle: it's unaffected by intense summer heat! It's super easy to clean, just dip it in a creek to rinse off the grime, or wash with soap and water (dish soap works great).

P.S. Coated webbings are sold under different brand names, like Biothane© and Brahma soft grip. We prefer the texture, durability, and performance of Brahma soft grip.

  • 3/8” wide (9.5 mm) for little dogs and puppies under 30 pounds - not available on all products - BLACK ONLY -(NOT for bigger dogs)

  • ¾” wide (19 mm) for large breeds, this is a heavy-duty leash (not recommended for dogs under 80 pounds)

BLACK LATIGO leather

Latigo tanned specifically for quality horse tack and premium pet products and has a high tensile strength. Your leash will start out a bit firm yet flexible and will very quickly soften and will continue to get better with age. The rich black color is drum dyed during tanning (rather than just dyed on the surface). Made in North America from select US steer hides. Stainless steel (silver color) hardware is standard.

English Bridle Leather in LONDON TAN

English bridle has a supple, satin-smooth finish and satisfying hand feel that is simply unmatched. London Tan, cherished in the 19th century for the finest horse tack, ages to a warm patina while keeping its lighter brown and orange tones. This full grain leather is 100% veg tanned with no metals or harsh chemicals. Made in North America from select US steer hides. ("English" refers to the style of tanning rather than a location.)
Solid brass (gold colored) hardware is standard.

Caring for leather: Your BLD leather gear will last for many years and only get better with age. Leather is resilient, don’t be afraid to use it in daily life. A light coat of conditioner rubbed in like lotion keeps it healthy.
