Refit Guide PDF
Measure the Dog's Girth:
- This measurement goes around your dog’s ribs, behind the front legs, at the deepest part of his chest.
- Start the measuring at the “sweet spot” behind the withers, go down under the deepest part of the dog’s chest and back around to the top.
- The measuring tape should be mostly vertical, forming a complete circle around the dog’s chest.
- Measure snugly but don’t squish your dog. (With long haired dogs, be sure you’re measuring the dog’s body, not just their floof!)
Refitting a BAH or MSH
Can you buckle the harness on your dog?
YES: use Option #1
NO: use Option #2
Strap refit option #1:
Use this method if the harness straps can buckle on your dog and fit reasonably well, but
there’s not enough room for adjustment in the future. You will measure to the hole that fits best. In the photos below, the pencil points to the adjustment hole that best fits.
1. Take note of which hole fits your dog best
2. Take the strap off the harness and lie it flat on a table
3. Measure the strap leather from the hole that fits best to the quick release latch. Measure only the leather (not the hardware).
Strap refit option #2:
1. Put the harness on your dog, unbuckle the strap you wish to measure for but leave
the quick release latch attached
2. Take a measuring tape and start measuring from where the leather starts on the
quick release/magnetic latch
3. Bring the measuring tape under your dog in the same position the strap would be
located to reach the adjustment buckle on the other side
a. Pull the measuring tape snug against your dog’s girth/belly
4. Starting at the beginning of the leather on the quick release/magnetic latch,
measure from buckle to buckle (do not include the hardware in the measurement)

Before you buy:
Please read the information in the BAH-MSH Complete Information Booklet, all information on the product page, and view the accompanying videos to thoroughly to understand what you are purchasing.
Measure and decide what features are critical for you before you purchase. It is very important to measure your dog and determine what size they need for each harness component. You also need to measure the person who will use the harness to determine the handle size. Follow the measuring instructions in the info booklet and on BLD’s website.
Be sure the harness saddle is made to accommodate the handle(s) you need. Harness saddles can only accommodate handles as described. Handle attachment mounts cannot be changed.
Straps Sizing Notes:
Straps have several inches of adjustment range. All harness strap measurements are taken from the center adjustment hole. There is 1.5-2” of adjustment smaller and larger from the given measurement. For example: a 30” girth strap adjusts from 28 to 32”. This means you can buy a strap that’s within 1 ½” of the dog’s actual measurements for a good fit (assuming the measurement is accurate).
New Replacement Parts are Available:
New, made-to-order harness components, including handles, straps, and the harness saddle itself can be purchased anytime at the regular online price. If the part you need, an MSH Belly Strap for example, is not available in the size you need, you can order a new one to complete or refit your harness.
Measuring instructions can be found here:
https://boldleaddesigns.com/pages/measuring-for-custom-harness. Please do not submit the measurement form – it is only for custom harnesses.
