Strap size: STD/XL

Two numbers are shown; the first number is for a standard size harness, the second is for an XL size. 30/34 means that this strap fits a dog with a 30" girth in a standard size harness, and/or a 34" girth in the XL size harness.

Each strap has several inches of adjustment.

Measure the Dog's Belly:

  • First, locate the spot under your dog’s belly where his/her ribs come together and join the sternum (indicated in red on the diagram).
  • Feel the dog’s side and find the back of his ribcage, then count 3-4 ribs forward. 
  • Follow this rib down and palpate to find the notch where the deep part of his chest curves up toward the belly (flanks).  
  • Bring the measuring tape under this point of the dog’s ribs, and pull the tape up and forward to the “sweet spot” behind the withers 
  • The measuring tape must be snug. The measure will be at a diagonal angle. 

Pro Tip: 

Put the measuring tape under your dog and “see-saw” it back and forth while pulling forward toward the withers—this settles the tape nicely under the belly, and then bring both sides of the tape to the “sweet spot.”  

Avoid measuring vertically around the dog’s waist, or place the measuring tape so far back it reaches the dog’s flanks—both will yield inaccurate measurements. Usually, the belly and girth measurement are within 3 inches of each other.

Please read the information in the BAH-MSH Complete Information Booklet, all information on the product page, and view the accompanying videos to thoroughly to understand what you are purchasing.

Measure and decide what features are critical for you before you purchase. It is very important to measure your dog and determine what size they need for each harness component. You also need to measure the person who will use the harness to determine the handle size. Follow the measuring instructions in the info booklet and on BLD’s website.

Be sure the harness saddle is made to accommodate the handle(s) you need. Harness saddles can only accommodate handles as described. Handle attachment mounts cannot be changed.

Straps Sizing Notes:

Straps have several inches of adjustment range. All harness strap measurements are taken from the center adjustment hole. There is 1.5-2” of adjustment smaller and larger from the given measurement. For example: a 30” girth strap adjusts from 28 to 32”. This means you can buy a strap that’s within 1 ½” of the dog’s actual measurements for a good fit (assuming the measurement is accurate).

New Replacement Parts are Available:

New, made-to-order harness components, including handles, straps, and the harness saddle itself can be purchased anytime at the regular online price. If the part you need, an MSH Belly Strap for example, is not available in the size you need, you can order a new one to complete or refit your harness.
